Facilities Info Management

A key practice associated with well-managed facility programs is good information systems that contain adequate, comprehensive, up-to-date information about public school facility inventory, condition, design and utilization.

21st Century School Fund has been involved in working to bridge the divide between information collected and utilized for building operations and the kind and quality of information needed for facility planning and decision making.

This innovative practice area is under development.

FORMAT-Pro: Decision Support Software from 21CSF

The Challenge: Having good information for making school facility planning decisions.

FORMAT-Pro® is decision-support software for long-range, K-12 school facility master planning and capital planning created by and for facility planners and managers. It was developed for non-technical users to enable them to work with multiple data and information sources from various points within a school district. It makes it possible to manipulate historical, current, and projected data and information. FORMAT is an acronym for Facilities Operations Resource Management Analysis Tool.

This tool is unique in its ability to perform comprehensive analysis of multiple school facility data sets by collecting them into a single database. It can look at maintenance, construction, student enrollment, and other data sets, making it easy to understand and build a variety of scenarios using a number of fields.

The Educational Adequacy of New Jersey Public School Facilities - Results from a Survey of Principals

The is a 2004 report based on a survey of New Jersey principals. The principals report significant problems in the quality and adequacy of school facilities in New Jersey. The study also finds that principals lack the resources to mange their school buildings. These problems are more severe in the poorest districts of the state.
