The 21st Century School Fund created Build America’s School Infrastructure Coalition (BASIC) in 2017 to make school facilities part of national infrastructure policy.

The National Council on School Facilities (NCSF) is the nonprofit association of state K–12 public school facilities officials. Its mission is to support states in their varied roles and responsibilities for the delivery of safe, healthy, and educationally appropriate school facilities that are sustainable and fiscally sound. NCSF is governed by a board of directors made up of state officials, elected by state members. Membership is limited to the leaders of the facility agencies from states, the District of Columbia, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the U.S. territories. The 21st Century School Fund in 2011 engaged with state facilities leaders to conduct a feasibilty study on creating NCSF which was founded in 2012.
